OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA Betty Louise Prichard Benham was born in Bartlesville, OK on September 20, 1917 and passed away in her home on Saturday, November 5, 2016. She was in her hundredth year. She spent most of her adult life in Oklahoma City, having lived briefly in Wichita Falls, Texas growing up. She is preceded in death by her father, Charles Abel Prichard and her mother, Minnie Myrtle Cygon Prichard, as well as her brother, Neal and sister, Lorraine, her first husband, William Douglas Baker, and her second husband, David Blair Benham. She attended Stephens College in Missouri for 2 years and then transferred to the University of Oklahoma where she pledged Theta. She married her first husband, William Douglas Baker and gave birth to her first child, now Barbara Benham Lacy. Like so many others from the Greatest Generation, she was widowed in 1945 when Army Captain Baker was killed in World War II. As a single mother, she lived with her parents in Oklahoma City and worked for the Optimist's Club where she met her second husband, David Blair Benham. They were married for 42 years until he died in 1991. She was instrumental in providing the grace and sophistication to the Benham family during its rise to prominence both locally and nationally. She is survived by their four children, Barbara Benham Lacy of Big Fork, Montana, Zan Benham of Sarasota, Florida, Nancy Benham Johnston and David Blair Benham II both of Oklahoma City and their respective spouses, Jerry Lacy, Mike Johnston and Raine Benham, as well as her grandchildren: Scott Tracy and his wife, Laura, of Golden, Colorado and Lauren Tracy; Daniel Murch, John Addison Johnston and his wife Mary Dexter Johnston, Audrey Alese Johnston, Daniel Blair Benham, John David Benham, Jeremy Aaron Benham, and Esperanza Loraine Benham. Betty was a member of Philomathia, the Thursday Book Club, The Monday Sewing Club (that didn't sew), and the Third Friday Book Club. She was an avid reader, crossword puzzle and crypto quote worker and was particularly fond of Braums Cappuccino Chunky Chocolate Frozen Yogurt which she attributed in part to her longevity. She had a great sense of humor and touched many lives, none so much as her children and grandchildren who will always and forever hold her in our hearts and souls as a pillar of strength and as a loving, ever-supportive and patient sage. The world was tremendously better for her life, and we are so grateful to God for her shining light. At her behest, immediate family will hold a graveside memorial service in private. The family especially wishes to thank Dr. Winn and Mercy Hospice and all the caregivers from Home Instead. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in her name to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation or Wounded Warriors or the charity of your choice.
