Letter from Annie C Byrd Gray to Lola Lee Prichard Crawford.
Dear Lola May,
Don't think I have seen you since you were a tiny girl, so I'll, in the beginning tell you who I am.
Annie Byrd Gray, a real old cousin. I have sweet memories of your father & mother. Its a shame that we, as a family have not kept in touch. Lets start now! Somehow I have a feeling that Charlie and I are the only ones left of the original Prichard-Byrd clan. Am I right?
Robert Byrd of Jackson is writing a book about the Bryds of Miss who originally came from Virginia. As we happen to be the Byrds he has asked me to help him in getting data. Unfortunately I was too young when I lost my parents to be interested in genealogy and now it seems there are so few of us left. Won't you please help me?
I know that you and two brothers are cousin Ingraham's children, but I don't know the names of the brothers or if there are other children. Nobia Round's daughter Annelle wrote to me after the death of her parents, said she was going to Texas. I've misplaced her address. Do you know Cato's address? Do you have any family records? Aunt May, before her death, gave Mr. Byrd some information. Said my father's mother was Christina Herrington. My father had told me his mother's name was Catherine Anne and I know her last name was Herrington because he and Lev were named Herington and he said that was his mother's maiden name.
I was able to correct Mr. Byrd about that but there is little I know. A distant relative of ours, (her great grand mother was my grandfather Byrd's sister) lives in Natchez. I'll put her address at the end should you be interested.
Uncle Millard's grandson, Millard, is trying to get information for Mr. B. and for us all, as is Ms. Porter. Did you hear that we lost our brother Kirby August 27 1965? The dear boy had cancer of throat. I came up in '64 to be with him in New Orleans when he had an operation on throat. We all came again the next July when my little brother lost his son. Stayed on as realized that Kirby couldn't get well.
I live in Miami now with my daughter Catherine. I sold my house in '57 as she didn't want me living alone. I've thoroughly enjoyed my only two grand children Suzanne and Gray. Suzanne graduated at U of Florida this past summer. Married August 19th and lives in Birmingham. I am returning to Miami soon but stopping there to see her. If you have time write me at Brothers. Love your cousin Annie Byrd Gray.

PS. Lola neither bro. nor I knew your married name so I sent this way as he said you are the PM.
