    • MATTHEWS Mrs. Wilbur L. (Helen), of San Antonio, Tx, born December 8, 1910 in Jacksonville, Tx, died Thursday, March 21, 1996. She graduated from Lon Morris College in 1930 and married Lev H. Prichard, Jr. of Oklahoma City in 1932. Except for Mr. Prichard's service in the Army Air Corps in World War II, they lived in Oklahoma City until 1948, at which time they moved to San Antonio. Mr. Prichard, Jr. was the son of the co-founder of APCO Corp., L.H. Prichard, Sr. and his wife, Louise, a benefactor of First Baptist Church in Oklahoma City and Oklahoma Baptist University. After Mr. Prichard died in 1950, Mrs. Prichard married J. Russell Davis in 1951. Mr. Davis died in 1972. Together with her son, Lev H. Prichard III of Corpus Christi, they owned and operated Hereford Hills Ranch in Blanco. In 1976, she married Wilbur Lee Matthews. Together they funded the elephant exhibition at the San Antonio Zoo, and the Chapel at Alamo Heights United Methodist Church. Mrs. Matthews was a member of Alamo Heights United Methodist Church, the Junior League of San Antonio, the Battle of Flowers Association, the Live Oak Garden Club, the Argyle and the San Antonio Country Club. She served as president of the Charity Ball Association in 1961. Mrs. Matthews was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. J.N. Pruit of Jacksonville; her brothers, Dr. Lee T. Pruit of Beaumont and William W. Pruit of Shreveport, La; her sisters, Mrs. T.E. Callier of Crockett and Mrs. Roy Hunsinger of Rockport. She is survived by her husband, Wilbur L. Matthews; son, Lev Prichard III and his wife, Ella, of Corpus Christi; two stepsons, Wilbur Matthews and his wife, Bunny, and John Matthews and his wife, Zelime, all of San Antonio; six grandchildren, Capt. Lev H. Prichard IV and his wife, Cheri of Enid, Ok, Margaret Prichard Fagan and her husband, Scott of Corpus Christi, Pamela Matthews Schenk and her husband, Ronald of San Antonio, Jennifer Matthews Elston and her husband, James of Houston, Wilbur Matthews, Jr. of New York, and Zelime Matthews of San Antonio; two great grandchildren, Lev Prichard V and Evan Prichard, both of Enid, Ok; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Fred McIntire of Austin; and many friends. Memorial service Saturday, March 23, 2:00 p.m., Alamo Heights United Methodist Church, the Rev. Dr. David McNitzky, the Rev. Clyde Byrd and the Rev. Dr. Paul W. Armes, First Baptist Church, Corpus Christi, officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the San Antonio Zoological Society, Sunshine Cottage or to a favorite charity of your choice.
